As you’re preparing for your project, these are some of the areas about which you should be thinking.
Know your goals
Why are you remodeling your home? Is it to get more space? Is it to improve your view of the water? Is it to update an aging kitchen? Think about how you want to use this new space – for entertaining, for family gatherings, etc. Maybe the goal is to remodel with an eye toward resale.
A good way to approach this question is to think about the pain points: What bothers you about your current kitchen/bathroom/home? Let’s make sure we solve those problems!
The important thing is to know why you want to make an improvement. These decisions will inform all aspects of your remodel from the materials we use to the way the space is designed.
This is also a good time to collect examples of what you like from magazines, websites, and other sources. The better you can articulate and show examples of what you want, the more likely you are to be able to get the remodel that meets your needs and desires.
Create a budget and know how you’re paying for it
Now that you know what you want to do, it’s important to have at least a rough figure in mind of what you can afford. You also should know how you intend to pay for the project. Are you paying cash, taking out a home equity line of credit, or some other type of loan? How much are you comfortable spending on the project?
Establish priorities
Determine what is important to you. Our goal is to get you everything you want, but you may have to make some cuts to hit your budget.
